This STC effort is undertaken in order to increase the safety and maintainability of Univair (ERCO) 415-C, 415-CD, 415-D, MODEL -E, -G, -F-1, F-1A aircraft.
As these aircraft have aged, a design shortcoming, lack of electrical system control through a battery master relay, has surfaced. The current design utilizes an AN3023-2 Toggle Switch, in series with the main electrical bus, to control the airframe electrical load.
In essence, the entire ships starting and operating load passes through the contacts of the AN3023-2 Toggle Switch, resulting in a voltage drop across the contacts, contact heating and reduced switch life.
The modification of the electrical system by the installation of a high current capacity master relay will modernize the electrical system and reduce the instances of contact heating and failure.
